VanDraw turns your phone into a drawing guide

Pick a sketch and point your phone's camera at a blank page. On the screen, the sketch sits right on the paper. Trace it with any pencil, and the drawing you end up with is all yours.

The idea

What is VanDraw?

VanDraw is a mobile drawing app based on a simple observation: most people can draw a clean line, they just don't know where to put it. So the app shows you. Point your phone's camera at a sheet of paper and your chosen sketch appears on the page, right there on the screen.

Trace what you see, then put the phone down. There's a finished drawing on your desk, made by your own hand. The app takes care of proportions and placement. You take care of the pencil.

Your phone the guide
Any pencil the tool
Plain paper the canvas

That's the whole setup. No tablets, no styluses, no special gear. VanDraw works with things already on your desk.

FAQ

Common questions

What is VanDraw?
VanDraw is a drawing app that shows a sketch on real paper through your phone's camera. You trace the lines with a real pencil, and the result is a physical drawing on paper, not a picture in an app.
When does VanDraw launch?
Soon. The app is in final testing, and this page will be updated the day it goes live.
What do I need to use it?
A phone, a sheet of paper and any pencil or pen. It helps to prop the phone up on something. A stack of books works fine.
Do I need to know how to draw?
No. The app shows you where every line goes, so even a first try can turn out well. As you improve, you can rely on the guide less and less.
How much will it cost?
Pricing will be announced at launch, on this page and in the app.
Is it VanDraw or OneDraw?
The app's name is VanDraw. Some people type OneDraw when they look it up. If that's how you got here, you're in the right place: vandraw.com is the official site.
